I was born the middle and most charming of three boys in a rural town in Minnesota. The family dog was already six and lived to be twenty three years old! That lit the fire of my passion. Working on family farms further revealed my passion for and knowledge of animals and their behavior as I grew up.

To understand dogs and their behavior in groups and alone I researched and studied the behavior of  wolves. What I learned was that not only are dogs related to wolves, they are so closely related that if you took a blood sample from any dog and one from a grey wolf, a lab technician would come back with the results saying, "These are blood relatives."
